Circa 1915 Iowa Handyman Special Under $95K
April 4, 2023
When this Iowa home was built in 1915 on Elm Street in this Mayberry-like town, it is likely that the three bedroom, one bath starter home was shaded by actual elm trees. While we couldn’t save the elm trees on the block, someone can certainly save this sweet little home with its unpainted woodwork and built-ins. Good bet hardwood floors are underneath the carpeting, too.
FYI: Did you know, however, that many of the elm trees in the US were killed off by Dutch Elm Disease? DED entered the US accidentally on elm logs shipped from France to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1931. By the mid-1930’s many planted and native elm trees in Ohio were dying off. It was not until 1957 that the disease made its way to Iowa and Kansas.
