Ambia, Indiana

Ambia is a tiny, quiet town tucked into the far southwest corner of Benton County, Indiana, right near the Illinois border. It was founded in 1875 and named after the daughter of its founder, Ezekiel Talbot. The town actually owes its existence to a bit of railroad drama: when a neighboring Illinois landowner refused to let the railroad build a switch on his land, workers physically moved the train station house half a mile east into Indiana on a Sunday morning. The residents and businesses followed, and Ambia was born.

Today, the community is home to a small population of roughly 230 people. It offers a classic rural Midwest atmosphere, characterized by open agricultural land and a very small footprint of only about 0.15 square miles. Most residents own their homes and work in surrounding areas, giving the town a peaceful, residential feel where life moves at a much slower pace than in the nearby metropolitan hubs like Lafayette.
