Middle Point, Ohio
Middle Point is a small village in Van Wert County, Ohio, located approximately halfway between the cities of Van Wert and Delphos. It covers a total area of about 0.57 square miles and sits within Washington Township.
History and Name
The village was originally laid out in 1851 and was first named Sykestown, after the Sykes family who owned the land at the time. The name was changed to Middle Point because of its geographical position as the central point between Van Wert and Delphos on the railroad line. The village was officially incorporated in 1874. Historically, the area was supported by a large stone quarry, the France Stone Company, which operated from 1888 until 1946 and provided ballast for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
